Help! I don't want to lose my Feedburner subscribers!

Can you hear that? It's the collective sound of bloggers all around the world pulling their hair out trying to figure out what the hell is going on with Feedburner.

If you've logged in to yours in the last few days you'll see your subscribers are at 0. Or BIG FAT ZERO NO FRIENDS as I've dubbed it.

I have no idea what is happening because for every article I read about it there is another one with opposite information. It's doing my head in. Is it going to be shut down completely? Will it just not be updated? Is it just the API being discontinued? What does API even meeeeaaaaaaan?

Mostly what I can hear are the mournful screams "WHERE HAVE ALL MY SUBSCRIBERS GONE?"

Relax. Despite the BIG FAT ZERO NO FRIENDS thing, the details of the people who subscribed by email are still there. But I have no idea how long they'll be there for so I'd suggest you go backup your email subscribers now.

How to backup your Feedburner email subscription
Step 1:

Step 2:

Step 3:

Save that CSV file somewhere safe! When you open it (with excel or similar) you'll see it's the email addresses of your lovely subscribers that you can now port over to whichever service you choose to use. Or email them to tell them you've stopped hyperventilating.

Even if this whole thing settles down, your numbers come back and the collective trichotillomania ceases, having a backup isn't a bad thing.

Are you freaking out?

  2. You know I never even knew you could check how many people subscribed via email. Diiiiiiirrrrrrr. But thank you because I did all of this.

P.S. Still having to come open your posts in firefox because disqus doesn't load in your blog in Explorer. Yep even though it did for years. PMS'ing bitch disqus is.

  3. I tried to export a file of my email subscribers yesterday from feedburner and the file was empty! I hyperventilated a little. I've read that their is a glitch in their counter code, which they are working on fixing, I've signed up for Feedblitz and will export both my feed and email subscribers there, BUT I have to have something to export (hellooooo, feedburner?) before I can complete that process. ***bites nails***

  4. Nice one G. I did my big freak out and figured out (with a LARGE sigh of relief) that I could extract out all my subscribers on Saturday night (at midnight thanks very much!!). It seems FB is actually still working but it is just not giving any stats ... but seriously Google ... WTF

  5. Well this will show you just how much of a noob I am. I didn't even know that I could find out who subscribes to my blog via email, I just put the option there. Now I want to know. And I can't find out because apparently it's not working.... Maybe I shall just go back to live under my rock in blissful ignorance .....

  6. Just tried the export again (using your instructions above) and it worked this time - thank you. However, the list is not complete. It only includes subscribers going back about six months or so. Is your list complete?

  8. Yup, freaking out. Am investigating other options (FeedBlitz) in case Feedburner explodes. Will wait for people who actually know what they're doing/talking about to work out where to go next first before I jump any ships though!

  9. Woah! That was freakin' scary! Thanks so much for bringing it to our attention! Have backed up but not sure what to do next. Will check into FeedBlitz but what the hell is going on with Feedburner???

  10. I'm spewing. I have an RSS and an ATOM feed. For some reason I could only get my ATOM feed subscribers list. Something appeared to be wrong with my setup for my RSS feed email subscriptions, and so even once I corrected/activated it properly, it still shows as 0. I know my higher subscriber figures were on the RSS feed too, not the ATOM. Grrrr...not. happy. Feedburner...

  21. They're back now as I'm sure you've figured out (yeah, took me a week to get here, sorry!). Most people I know are going the Feedblitz route but I'm reluctant to pay for it.

  22. Haha Kelly I know exactly what you mean! I was so shocked to see a zero and was thinking what the hell had I said to make EVERYONE leave!!!

  23. I remember your feed being iffy when you first started. I have three feeds apparently. Two are on zero and the other one is the actual one... I'm still too scared to delete the ones on zero though :P

  24. I can't bring myself to pay for Feedblitz when this is just a hobby and I don't even cover costs as it is.

  25. I don't think it'll explode... mind you everyone said that about the banks...

  28. You're welcome gorgeous.
P.S. IE is the devil!!! Code doesn't even show up the same in IE as it does in Firefox and Chrome. Most hated browser of all time. Can you tell I'm kinda passionate about this? Hehe x
